New Exhibition

We’re back!  Thank you to everyone who remembered when we were coming back – and made us feel very pleased to be back (well, as pleased as you can be when you’ve left behind sun, sea and sand, some fantastic food and your family – including daughter #1).  But, you know what I mean.

My daughter is making her way across America and we’ll be following her trip with postcards and thick black lines on a map in the BEANS toilet (it’s got nothing to do with being jealous – it was the only available wall space).

And, many thanks to the Chesterfield College Artists who have allowed BEANS to borrow their works for our new exhibition.  They have provided some wonderful new pieces to gaze upon while you’re drinking your coffee.  Or, forget the coffee – just come and have a look around.  It all really does look pretty impressive (and I can say that cos it’s not my work).

Just a reminder – Don’t forget Wirksworth Art Trail this Saturday and Sunday (10th and 11th September).  Keep an eye out for our own Sarah Godfrey while you’re there. And next weekend, look out for Helen Hallows at Melbourne’s Art Trail.  Two events not to be missed!!

Recording Memories Workshop

Helen Hallows arrived laden with everything required and more to create a collage expression of memories past, present and future.  The workshop was held last Sunday (13 March) at BEANS and a good time was had by all. Thank you Helen!!!   Helen has written about the event on her blog at  http://helenhallows.blogspot.com/2011/03/recording-memories-workshop.html – with photos! Don’t worry if you missed it, Helen will be holding a second workshop at BEANS on 25th September.  Her second workshop is entitled ‘Ceramic Designs’.  There is still the opportunity to explore mark making with inks and other media and to use some of Helen’s vintage papers to create a collage – and to add stitchery to your piece…  but then, your work will be captured for a digital ceramic transfer which will be applied to a tile and posted on to you. You can order additional tiles if you wish – perfect for gifts!

Wirksworth Festival

If anyone doesn’t know what to do with themselves this weekend, it’s the art trail at Wirksworth Festival on Saturday and Sunday. Many of the homes/buildings in Wirksworth open their doors to an artist. You buy a badge and get your map and off you go. Venues are marked with balloons to help you find your way – and the doors are open. Not only do you get to see a wide variety of work (and have the chance to buy), but you get to have a bit of a nosey at the inside of people’s houses as well. And if you can get yourself up Green Hill – the view is amazing.

While you’re there, call in at Wirksworth library where Helen Hallows will be displaying her work. Helen is doing a course at BEANS in the new year.

Perhaps see you there.
